SM Krishna resigned from the Post of External Affairs Minister

SM Krishna on 26 October 2012 resigned from his post of External Affairs Minister. He submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who accepted it and forwarded to the President of India. SM Krishna, before being inducted as the External Affairs Minister in 2009, served Maharasthtra as its nineteenth Governor from 2004 to 2008. He served as a Member of Parliament from the Mandya district of Karnataka in its in the 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th Lok Sabha starting from 1968.

About SM Krishna 

SM Krishna (Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna), who belongs to Indian National Congress was the oldest member of the Union Council of Ministers at the time of his resignation remained the External Affairs Minister from 2009 to October 2012. Before taking up the responsibility as External Affairs Minister, Krishna served Karnataka as its sixteenth Chief Minister from 1999 to 2004. He also served as nineteenth Governor of Maharashtra from 2004 to 2008.

•    He also served Indian Parliamentary Delegation to Commonwealth as its member 
•    Parliamentary Conference, New Zealand, 1965
•    From 1971–1976 he was the member of fifth Lok Sabha 
•    From 1972–1977 he served as a Member to Karnataka Legislative Council 
•    From 1980–1984 he was the member of 7th Lok Sabha 
•    From 1972-1977 he served as Minister for Commerce & Industries & Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Karnataka 
•    In 1982 he was a member of Indian Delegation to the United Nations
•    From 1983–1984 he was the Union Minister of State for Industry 
•    From 1984–1985 he served as the Union Minister of State for Finance 
•    1989–1992 he was the member of 9th Karnataka Legislative Assembly 
•    1989–93 he served as a Speaker to Karnataka Legislative Assembly 
•    In March 1990, he was delegate to Commonwealth Parliamentary Seminar at West Minister, UK 
•    1992–1994 he was the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka
•    In April 1996 he was elected to Rajya Sabha 
•    From October 1999– 2004 he was the Chief Minister of Karnataka 
•    2004 he was re-elected to Karnataka Legislative Assembly
•    2004–2008 he served Maharashtra as its Governor
•    22nd May, 2009 to 26th he served the nation as its External Affairs Minister, Government of India
